Pearl Continental Hotel Rawalpindi joined the Tejari marketplace in early 2007 and was provided with a wide range of business opportunities that helped them move towards greater professionalism and transparency when buying and selling. “Procurement via the advanced Tejari marketplace is very cost effective for our organization. We saved on average up to 13% using online purchases last year”, commented Mr. Faisal Abdul Aziz, Material Manager and Manager of Special Projects.
Pearl Continental Hotel Rawalpindi located in just ten minutes drive from the airport enjoys the status of the only deluxe hotel in the city. A distinct culture flourished on the Rawal Plateau as far back as 3000 years, attracting tourists from the world over. With its close proximity to the archaeological sites, historical monuments and fascinating hill stations, the hotel serves as a transit haven for the tourists. A blend of warm elegance and gracious hospitality, Pearl Continental Hotel Rawalpindi has a distinctive character of its own.
Pearl Continental Hotel Rawalpindi is a part of Hashoo Group which is a widely diversified conglomerate that was established in 1960 by Mr. Sadruddin Hashwani. As a responsible corporate citizen contributing effectively towards community welfare and national development in Pakistan, the Hashoo Group maintains high standards of governance, quality, and ethics.
In addition, Hashoo Group owns and operates the Pearl Continental Hotels and Marriott Hotels brands that have a presence in all of the major cities in Pakistan. Accordingly, it needs to procure items used by the hotel and hospitality industry in Pakistan.
In 2008, Pearl Continental Hotel Rawalpindi participated in more than 1,200 online tenders with a total value of more than US$1.5 million. Today, Pearl Continental Hotel Rawalpindi makes 96% of their purchases online via the modern Tejari marketplace.
In May of 2009, Pearl Continental Hotel successfully conducted their largest transaction to date, with a total amount of PKR 6.8 Million (US$ 83,800), and which involved the purchase of power cable for their new generator set.
The Procurement Department, which serves over 1,000 suppliers and many internal departments, found that the prices they received without Tejari’s involvement were 50% higher than when using the online procurement system.
“We are planning to upgrade and renovate a group of hotels, and for this kind of project we need suppliers from all regions of Pakistan. With the Tejari marketplace we have a good platform to run online tenders and auctions, and to involve more suppliers. Initially, the new procurement system looked very difficult for us and we thought that we would not be able to do anything at all, but once we started using the Tejari platform, we forgot our 18 years of previous buying experience since the new system is much more effective and time-saving”, added Mr. Faisal Abdul Aziz.
