DTCM used Tejari’s online B2B marketplace for electronic procurement since 2000 with over US$6.7 million in auctions awarded
Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 17 June 2009: Tejari, the leading online B2B marketplace in the Middle East, is often the primary means of e-procurement for its customers. The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce (DTCM) is one such satisfied client who has made an exceptionally high amount of online purchases via Tejari’s online marketplace.
Since initiating a relationship with Tejari in December of 2000, DTCM has accumulated a total auction award value of more than US$6.7million over the 634 auctions that it has held to date.
Furthermore, DTCM has already participated in 13 auctions in 2009, and during the month of March alone, it performed three auctions with a combined estimated value of over US$900,000.
DTCM has sourced a wide variety of supplies, services and equipment electronically via Tejari’s online marketplace since joining. By doing so, they have been able to open up their procurement process to competitive bidding among Tejari’s large supplier network.
To date, DTCM has initiated online auctions for numerous commonplace items needed to perform its marketing functions such as: printing services, printer toner cartridges, stationery, website design services, forms, computer, photocopier and fax equipment, software, and pantry items.
However, not all of the DTCM’s purchases are so predictable.
Some examples of the larger and more innovative purchase transactions that the DTCM has performed via online auctions include: a replacement upgrading of the fire protection system at the Dubai Museum which had an award value of over US$1.6million and was awarded to Naffco; a tender for the facilities management of DTCM properties which had an award value of almost US$500,000 and was supplied by MAF Dalkia Middle East LLC; and two auctions for publicity material printing and origination of artwork services that were both awarded to Al Futtaim Printers and Publishers for a combined amount of approximately US$650,000.
According to Tejari C.E.O., Mr. Suhail Albana, “Today government accessibility, visibility and accountability to maximize budgets during tight fiscal times are expected. Electronic procurement creates enormous opportunities for government to use sourcing strategies, leveraging its bargaining power to drive down costs, and improve the overall quality of services.” Mr. Suhail’s comments accurately address the most important reasons why government organizations such as the DTCM should be actively engaging in e-procurement, especially in challenging economic environments.
Tejari, the leading online B2B marketplace for emerging markets is a perfect example of the innovative spirit of Dubai.
The company, launched by the Government of Dubai, is one of the most successful units of Dubai World, a holding company that is responsible for much of the emirate’s phenomenal economic growth.
The online trading portal helps facilitate trade in the Middle East between companies and geographies through the largest buyer network in the region with more than 200,000 members.
